SQL Express edition install

I am still having problems to install SQL Server 2005 express edition, doesn't
matter which version. The first time it was installed with BackupExec 10d
without any problem. Any entry from Veritas/Symantec is also removed with
there support. The only problem now is to reinstall the express edition.

It always returns:

Error: Action "LaunchLocalBootstrapAction" threw an exception during execution.
Error information reported during run: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup
Bootstrap\setup.exe" finished and returned: 128 Message pump returning: 128

I have uninstalled according to document KB909967 and through the following
posts:
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2005/09/13/465401.aspx

http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2005/07/01/434814.aspx

Also cleaned up the registry by hand from any Microsoft SQL Server entry
and searched for version number 9.00.2047.00 after cleaning up.

Best regards

Do you have any other Instance of SQL Server (any edition?) insalled
already?

Can you post the error log itself? Maybe we can track the progress and come
to a conclusion.

Hello Ekrem,

If you can be so nice to search for this posting "SQL Express Edition installation
problem" from 13.02.08 15:11PM. There i have added the SQLSetup0002_servername_Core(Local)
Or do you need all 5 logs? But they are really big.

Hello Ekrem,

think this is the easier way:

i am trying to install SQL Express Edition on a cluster node and during the
setup it stops just. On the cluster node was installed BackupExec11d which
was removed and also completely deleted from the registry. Also did follow
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909967 as much as possible.

Native client and setup support files will be installed correctly, the next
window pops up and closes after 5 seconds.

In the summary.txt you can see only this:

Hello Ekrem,

Small update. After removing the "&" from a Cluster group name like "quorum
& whatever" to "quorum whatever" it runs without any problem. Level 1 and
2 support from MS figured it out.

Thank you so much for posting the fix for your error. I have had the exact
same error within our cluster when trying to upgrade our BackupExec 10d to
11d. Symantec support could not figure this one out, Microsoft thought it
was a .NET issue, and no one else on the Internet was having this particular
problem (No wonder...After all, how many people use '&' in their cluster
group names? 2 people that I am aware of currently). Within our Cluster we
had a group that had an '&' in the name of the group. I replaced the '&'
with 'and', reran the BE11d install and SUCCESS!

Thank you for posting the fix and saving me more hours on the phone with
tech support! You are the BEST! :D
